In a swift response to the suicide bombings in the Gwoza area of Borno State on Saturday, Vice President Kashim Shettima visited the victims and families affected by the tragic attacks on Monday.

He described the incident as "pathetic" and quoted the late Dele Giwa, saying, "One life lost in cold blood is as gruesome as millions lost in cold blood."

After meeting and consoling victims at the State Specialist Hospital in Maiduguri, Senator Shettima conveyed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's condolences to the Borno State government and the people of Gwoza. The Vice President made a personal donation to all the victims and extended his sympathies to the families of those killed in the explosions, stating, “The heart of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is with the victims, and he specifically instructed us to come and offer our condolences and support."

He added, “We are here with the Director General, the Minister of Agriculture, the Minister of Transportation, the Chief Whip of the Senate—a native of Gwoza—and the Acting Governor. They have been tirelessly working to provide support to the victims.”

Noting that the death toll has reached 32, the Vice President reported that while 42 injured persons were brought to the Specialist Hospital, 14 have been discharged, and 26 are still receiving treatment.

“It was a very sad scene. Our hearts go out to the victims. So far, we have recorded 32 deaths; 42 of those injured were brought in from Gwoza, 14 have been discharged, and 26 are currently receiving attention," he said.

He also expressed gratitude to the Borno State government, the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), and ICRC Nigeria for their timely support and efforts during this difficult time.
