In a landmark development for Nigeria's security framework, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu (GCFR) officially commissioned the Bola Ahmed Tinubu Technology Innovation Complex (BATTIC) at the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) Headquarters. This cutting-edge facility signals a significant leap in Nigeria's efforts to secure its borders, combat transnational crimes, and lead in technologically driven security operations.
Designed as the operational hub for the Nigeria Immigration Service and a nerve center for all paramilitary agencies under the Ministry of Interior, BATTIC integrates real-time intelligence gathering, processing, and storage to address critical national security issues with unprecedented efficiency.
The unveiling of BATTIC aligns with President Tinubu's Renewed Hope agenda, which emphasizes innovation, technological advancement, and collaboration to tackle Nigeria's multifaceted security challenges.
Equipped with advanced security solutions, the complex includes key components such as:
Data Centre: With 8.3 petabytes of storage, it supports seamless integration and management of security data.
Command and Control Centre: Leveraging the Advance Passenger Information System (APIS), it monitors and pre-profiles travelers entering Nigeria, enhancing border security.
Visa Approval Centre: Streamlines visa processing using advanced biometric and digital solutions.
ECOWAS Biometrics Centre: Enhances regional security through biometric data management and intelligence sharing.
Solar Farm: Ensures uninterrupted operations using renewable energy.
Passport Personalisation Centre: Produces passports with enhanced security features.
BATTIC's state-of-the-art systems address longstanding challenges such as porous borders, smuggling, terrorism, and cybercrimes. The complex enables authorities to track, identify, and apprehend individuals involved in criminal activities, ensuring tighter border security.
The project also underscores inter-agency collaboration, with stakeholders from the Ministry of Aviation, Department of State Services, Office of the National Security Adviser, and other key agencies contributing to its success.
At the commissioning ceremony, Minister of Interior Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo highlighted the collective efforts of government parastatals, technical partners, and service chiefs in bringing the project to life. The event was graced by prominent figures, including Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila, Senator Adams Oshiomhole, Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, and service chiefs.
BATTIC represents a bold step in the Tinubu administration’s commitment to fostering innovation, addressing security challenges, and creating an environment where Nigerians can live and thrive securely.
