One Killed, Four Injured in Clash Between Farmers and Herders in Jigawa State

A violent clash between crop farmers and cattle herders in Gululu, Miga Local Government Area of Jigawa State, has left one person dead and four others injured.

The incident occurred on Friday at a Fulani settlement after peasant farmers accused herders of stealing from a provision store the previous night.

According to the village head, Muhammad Sarkin-Dori, residents traced footprints from the scene of the theft to the herders’ settlement, sparking the confrontation. "The herders confronted the villagers with arrows, leading to the violent clash. It's unclear if the stolen items were recovered, but we have reported the incident to the authorities," he said.

Five injured individuals were initially treated at Jahun General Hospital before being referred to Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital. One man, identified as Dauda Kafinta, was later found dead with injuries from a bow and arrow.

The Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Haruna Aliyu, who hails from the area, visited the scene to defuse tensions. He appealed for calm and called for an investigation, as well as increased police presence to restore order.

Attempts to reach the state police spokesperson, Lawan Adam, for comment were unsuccessful, as his phone line was not reachable on Friday afternoon.
