The National Security Adviser (NSA), Nuhu Ribadu, has emphasized that any threat to Nigeria's security will be met with decisive action and justice. Speaking during a high-level counter-terrorism meeting in Abuja, Ribadu highlighted significant achievements in reducing terrorism-related deaths from 2,600 monthly to less than 200. These results stem from enhanced efforts to block access to illicit arms and weapons, making it more difficult for non-state actors to operate effectively
Ribadu credited the success to the collaborative work of the Nigerian armed forces, security agencies, and regional partners. He noted that the government’s strategy includes silently pursuing security reforms, destroying confiscated arms, and implementing measures to tackle violent extremism and organized crime. The NSA also underscored the importance of addressing the root causes of insecurity, such as poverty and marginalization, to foster lasting peace and stability
This progress comes alongside ongoing efforts to strengthen international partnerships, including the UK-Nigeria Security and Defense Partnership, which focuses on counterterrorism, intelligence sharing, and maritime security
