Nigeria's National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) announced on Sunday, March 3rd, that it is enhancing security measures at its facilities in response to an uptick in attacks on warehouses.

The Director General of NEMA has directed Zonal Directors and Heads of Operations to bolster security in and around the Agency’s offices and warehouses nationwide, aiming to prevent any breaches.

Nigeria, Africa's largest economy and most populous country, is grappling with one of its severest economic crises in years, marked by nearly 30% inflation and a record low value of the Naira against the dollar due to monetary policies. Amidst these challenges, one of Nigeria's prominent trade unions recently staged protests demanding immediate action to alleviate hunger, including the opening of all food storage silos across the country for fair distribution. The decision by NEMA follows an incident in Abuja where residents reportedly raided a facility for food items, including maize, in a prolonged episode of theft.
