According to Zagazola Makama, a counter-insurgency publication focused on the area, around 100 fighters from the Islamic State of West Africa Province (ISWAP) and Boko Haram terrorists have reportedly been killed during a clash in the Lake Chad region.
The confrontation took place earlier this month in Toumbun Gini, located in the Abadam Local Government Area of Borno state.

The report states that fighters led by Bakoura, also known as Abu Umaima, from the JAS Buduma faction, launched an "unforeseen attack" on ISWAP forces stationed at their headquarters on the shores of Toumbun Gini. The surprise assault resulted in the deaths of over 90 ISWAP members.

The JAS Buduma fighters reportedly captured weapons and equipment during the attack and subsequently took control of areas near the ISWAP stronghold.
This incident is part of a series of violent encounters between the two rival factions. On July 6, JAS fighters attacked ISWAP-controlled territories in Kwatar Shalla Shuwari, killing 16 fighters and seizing eight water vessels, various weapons, and a large sum of money. These captured items were later delivered to their leader at Alli Modulla Camp in Diffa, Niger.
In another encounter on July 8 in Dawashi Kwalta, over 20 ISWAP fighters were killed, with some reportedly drowning as they attempted to escape through the river.
These battles have been part of has now developed into a decade long hydra headed insurgence in the region
